WHAT IS A GOOD MASK?

Before we go off buying masks willy nilly we need to know what constitutes a good mask. We want a mask that is effecting in preventing the spread of the virus while looking good.

When purchasing a mask consider the fabric, fit, and breathability. If you can’t breathe in your mask it won’t be fun wearing it around. When looking at the fabric look at the weaving of it. Hold the mask to the light and see if you can see through it. If you can the mask isn’t going to offer good prevention of spreading the virus. Your best bet is something that is a tight-weave that is 100% cotton. Masks made of natural fibers are better than synthetic ones. With natural fibers think of cotton, linen, or wool. If you want that extra layer of protection add another mask to reduce the chance of releasing the smaller particles when you breath or speak.

Avoid masks with exhalation valves because they do not help prevent the spread. Make sure to keep your mask clean by washing it daily. Make sure to wear a dry mask as a wet mask can be difficult to breathe in and promote the growth of bacteria. Also, so you don’t get maskne.

So, now we go the science behind it out of the way now we get to the fun part-- styling!

STYLING MASK

Go for more neutral colors. When starting your mask collection covers the basics such as brown, black, and white. They go with everything. It will easy to pair those colors with the majority of your outfits. There are different styles of masks to choose from. Pitta mask and N95 mask look great for more streetwear looks. They are more geared towards casual looks. The pleated mask looks good for a minimal look. This mask is united towards job interviews and formal events. For the surgical mask, it can be worn with semi-formal outfits and casual outfits. If you have a heavily patterned or adorned mask go for a basic outfit to focus on the mask. Play around with colors if your mask is black, white, or both go for a more colorful outfit. Or color block, if you have a red mask wear a blue monochromatic look. You also go for a monochromatic look and match the color with your mask.
